Sliced bread and ramen noodles were almost completely gone. Toilet paper and tissue paper were nowhere to be found. The meat section had been picked three-quarters clean, leaving very little for the shoppers who had come in at that time of day. Nevertheless, employees of the store pushed around carts with orange signs on the sides, picking up items for people ordering online.
On Sept. 24 local grocery store baggers will compete for the title of NH’s Best Bagger, and a chance to win $10,000!
This is the second year that Feed the Children has selected Manchester as one of eight communities to receive the items.
The New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, recently received a $75,000 Healthy Food Fund Grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation aimed at increasing access to fresh, nutritious food to those in need in New Hampshire.
For the second year in a row during November and December 2017, E. & J. Gallo Winery committed to donate 50 cents to the New Hampshire Food Bank for every bottle of Carnivor, DaVinci, William Hill and Whitehaven products sold at all NH retail liquor and win outlets,
Throughout April and May, participating grocery stores are selling “cans of nothing” for $5 each. Once filled with coins and cash, and returned to the NH Food Bank, they help feed those in need here.
E. & J. Gallo Winery donated 50 cents per bottle sold at all 79 NH Liquor & Wine Outlets during November and December 2016.
A majority of the donation will be used to help sustain the Food Bank’s 430 partner organizations.
Mel Gosselin brings 25 years of dynamic leadership in the for-profit and non-profit worlds, including 13 years as Executive Director of the New Hampshire Food Bank, which, under Gosselin’s tenure, grew to become the state’s largest non-profit food distribution center.
Brentwood resident Eileen Groll Liponis has been named the new Food Bank executive director, replacing Mel Gosselin, who resigned last year.
More than 100 volunteers from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and Eastern Bank joined City Year New Hampshire for Harvard Pilgrim’s 8th Annual Day of Service at the NH Food Bank’s Production Garden on North River Road in Manchester.
The new heavy-duty, refrigerated truck, which will be able to transport more than 10,000 pounds of food at a time, will have a significant impact on the Food Bank’s statewide distribution. With this new truck, the NH Food Bank will save considerable money on repairs and operations.
