Aldermanic committee recommends return of parking space seating, but with a price

Restaurants looking to apply for an encumbrance permit this year, which would allow them put seating on parking spaces. However, this year it would cost $420 per space for the usage of the space from May 1 to Oct. 31. That figure came from a average of what it would cost the city in lost revenue from parking meter fees and higher rate for permits to allow construction vehicles the use of spaces.

Manchester Launches Small Business Grant and Program Assistance

On Wednesday, Mayor Joyce Craig and the City of Manchester announced the relaunch of the Manchester Small Business Grant and Program Assistance. This grant initiative was developed as a resource to help small businesses recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first iteration of the program, launched in 2020, provided grants to 53 Manchester businesses, created 16 jobs and retained 38 employees.

Aldermen approve layover site for commuter rail line

On Tuesday night, Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BMA) approved a layover location for the proposed MBTA commuter rail extension into Nashua and Manchester.

Planning Board has lingering questions on parts of 1000 Elm proposal

Also known as Brady Sullivan Plaza, representatives of the proposal sought approval of a site plan application that would change the use of 189,331 square feet of office space into 155 residential units in the “tower” portion of the property and a conditional use permit to allow residential units on the ground floor of the plaza.

Application submitted for over 100 new residential units at 1000 Elm

The application heading to the board requests a change of use site plan and conditional use permit to convert seven floors of the now commercial building into residential space, creating 80 new residential units. An additional 75 units are proposed on the ground floor and in a section of the parking garage as well.

Manchester reaches Phase 2 of Build Back Better Regional Challenge

Manchester reached Phase 2 after being chosen as one of the applicants phasing Phase 1 of the process, which included 529 projects from all 50 states and five U.S. territories. The 60 participants in Phase 2 will receive $500,000 to develop studies to present plans that could result in anywhere from $5 to $100 million for successful applications, with a submission deadline of March 15, 2022.

Pappas, Craig and Kitchens grateful for MHT federal funding

On Tuesday, U.S. Representative Chris Pappas (D-NH-01) travelled back to Washington out of Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) and thanked airport employees along the way for their efforts to keep the airport running during the pandemic. In return, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport Director Ted Kitchens thanked Pappas for his work to help pass the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which will provide additional funding for the airport.
