Where Middle Earth meets NH: Tolkien expert breaks down ‘Rings of Power’ for online series filmed at Studio Lab

This past Friday I was privileged to learn a couple of fun facts about New  Hampshire that truly surprised me. Did you know that the world’s preeminent expert on all things J.R.R. Tolkien and The Lord of the Rings founded a  university on the subject that, though entirely virtual, is based in Hollis? Or that there is a world-class, state-of-the-art motion picture studio in Derry?  

Art exhibit, activities kick-off to celebrate Father of Video Games’ 100th birthday

Starting this weekend, the SEE Science Center in Manchester is hosting a number of workshop activities and opening of a new art exhibit to celebrate the legacy of Ralph Baer, the German-immigrant-turned-New-Hampshire-inventor who created the first home video game systems among many other things.

Curtain’s up at the Palace Theatres starting June 4

The Palace Theatres are re-claiming the stage Friday, June 4 following a long pause due to COVID-19. Venues including the historic Palace Theatre, the Rex Theatre, the Spotlight Room and Forever Emma Studios will be open to the public for the first time since December due to the pandemic. 

Shaheen to venues: Look for positive times ahead

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., paid a Friday afternoon visit to the Portsmouth Music Hall for a roundtable discussion on new COVID-19 relief for Granite State entertainment venues, part of the recently passed $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan.
