MANCHESTER, NH — Ten MCC students will soon be selected for a life-changing opportunity to work in the computer science field with free direct training by Google and TalentSprint, through a new partnership program with Manchester Community College.  The tech giant chose MCC for a virtual program designed to build entry-level software developer expertise. The students will build technical expertise, enable effective peer learning, impart hands-on learning, confidence and tech career readiness by TalentSprint, which will include mentoring sessions by Google.

It will also include a $5,000 stipend to be awarded at intervals over the course of the 18-month program.  Administrative leaders are buzzing about the new partnership, which runs from February through August 2024. Spring Classes begin January 17 and slots remain open.

“To team up with a tech giant like Google will be a dream come true for our students and we are thrilled to have been one of just three community colleges in the country selected to participate,” says Brian Bicknell, President of Manchester Community College. “Computer science and software development are fast-growing fields and partnering with Google and TalentSprint will give our students a distinct advantage in the marketplace.”

Eligible students will go through a multi-stage selection process managed by the tech companies. This offers a real-world exercise similar to what the job search will feel like when students complete the training.  “The TechWise academic program is a diversity, equity and inclusion program that identifies and empowers capable students from underrepresented groups to prepare them for high-growth tech careers,” explains Peter LaMonica, Chair of the Computer Science Department at MCC.  “This program provides all the tools to succeed along with the funding to cover the costs of education and even providing a small stipend to cover additional expenses.  We are very fortunate to have been selected to participate with these two global tech giants.”

TechWise administrators say they are searching for students who want to pursue tech careers, are familiar with programming, committed to this pursuit and are enrolled at a community college.  Graduates of the TechWise program have gone on to jobs in a variety of well-known global tech companies, so the opportunities for the ten MCC students are unlimited.
