MANCHESTER, NH — The new Wal-Mart superstore on Gold Street is finally a reality, with Wednesday’s grand opening.

The store features fresh groceries and general merchandise, a full pharmacy and Walmart’s all new MoneyCenter services.

The store will employ up to 300  full- and part-time workers. Applicants can apply at the store’s hiring kiosk or online at Walmartcareers.com. Store manager, Christina Fogg, began her Walmart career in 1997 as an hourly associate at a store in Amherst.

“We are excited to open and serve our friends and neighbors in the Manchester community just in time for springtime,” Fogg said.

Walmart is pushing its mobile app for iPhone and Android where customers can refill prescription medications, create shopping lists, search the location of items in their store, check weekly ads and prices, and save eReceipts — oh, and of course, shop Walmart.com.

During Wednesday’s grand opening  presentations of $10,000 in grants from the Walmart Foundation were  made to local community groups including the Farnum Center, NH Food Bank, CHAD, Easter Seals, MPAL and Girls INC.

On April 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday, April 24, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. local residents are invited to Wal-mart’s  Big Family Welcome celebration for family activities and free food samples.
